The GPSMAP 196 is a versatile navigator for air, land and sea. Routable basemap contains coastlines, lakes, rivers, streams, airports, cities, towns, motorways, highways, and political boundaries for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Jeppesen database includes worldwide airports and VOR’s, plus Atlantic International NDB’s, intersections, special use and controlled airspace, runway data, plus airport, FSS, and ARTCC frequencies, final approach sequence waypoints for all published approaches. Moving Map and graphic HSI with VNAV, unique new panel page graphically displays flight information. An automatic logbook calculates flight time and automatically records departure and arrival locations. This flight information can be downloaded to Garmin’s free logbook software FlightBook (Internet). For land navigation, an additional data card and MapSource software are needed (MetroGuide or CitySelect).
